Bride & Groom: Samantha & Ben Lester

Wedding Date: June 15, 2018

Ceremony & Reception Location: Whistle Bear Golf Club ( “My dad was at a golf event at Whistle bear a year before we even got engaged and mentioned it would be a beautiful wedding venue. So, when we got engaged we thought we would go take a look. As soon as we stepped foot on the property, we knew it was the venue for us. My dad was right. The grounds are absolutely stunning. We loved the front lobby as it has a rustic yet modern feel. We had a consultation and tour of each room and when we got back into our car, we immediately agreed that we didn’t need to tour another place! We have also heard nothing but amazing things from people we know who have gotten married at this location so that helped in our decision as well. We just had a really good feeling about Whistle bear from the beginning. I think it’s noteworthy to mention the staff and service at WhistleBear. Nikki Northern is an absolute angel and she really helped us plan and manage our day. Our maitre’d, Sam was also incredible and made sure everything ran smoothly on our wedding day. The food was absolutely amazing and we truly would not change a thing. We would get married at Whistle bear 10 times over if we could! ” – S

Colour Palette: Soft greys, and whites with greenery

Theme: “We wanted our wedding day to be classic and elegant, so we went with very simple and minimal décor. All of the rooms at Whistle bear are so beautiful, so we didn’t feel the need to go crazy with all the expensive details that you typically see at weddings. We went with soft neutral colours, beautiful flower arrangements, and romantic candles on each table for the elegant theme.” – S

Flowers: Jodi Leigh Designs ( “Jodi and her team are FANTASTIC! We decided on beautiful arrangements using white ranunculus, white lisianthus, and white majolica with greenery throughout. The bridesmaids’ bouquets had Italian and Israeli ruscus and playa blanca among others. All of our arrangements were white with greenery throughout to go with our simple and elegant theme. The alter toppers for the reception included dusty miller, buried hydrangeas and peonies.” – S

Décor: “Jodi also did most of our décor for our big day as well. We used pearl grey runners for the tables, stemmed candles, candle vignettes for the head table, and beautiful table numbers. We also used 2 pedestals for alter toppers that were used for our ceremony and then later transported to our reception space. In addition to that, we also used clear compote vases, bud vases and small flirt vases for the tables.” – S

Stationary: Pirate Smile Designs ( “We had Claudia create our seating chart, menus and place cards that added that special touch to our guest tables. We loved the way they turned out!” – S

Fav decor element: “My bouquet and all of the flowers were my favourite for sure. It was exactly what I wanted and what I always pictured. Jodi really nailed it! The great thing about The Grandview Room at Whistle bear is that it doesn’t need much décor to make it beautiful. The mirrored ceiling above the dancefloor is stunning and we didn’t feel the need to go overboard on décor at all!” -S

DIY: “The only DIY project we took on was our card box. Ben made that and stained it himself.” – S

DJ: DJ Charlie Clean ( “Our DJ Matt Was a riot and had everyone dancing all night long!” – S

Photographer: Spirits Intrigued Photography ( “While researching photographers in the area, I came across Alex at Spirits Intrigued Photography. I was immediately drawn to his work so Ben and I agreed to meet with him for a consult. We sat in a Williams Coffee Shop and ended up chatting with Alex for hours! The day of our engagement shoot was one of the best parts of our wedding planning process. It was such a blast. Ben is not a fan of photos but he was very comfortable with Alex which was really nice. Alex has the ability to capture those candid moments between couples that can immediately bring you back to that moment. He never rushes, and never puts timelines on things. He always said “I don’t leave until I have everything I need/want”, which was comforting for us because our time with him never felt rushed, it was easy going and relaxed. It was always a blast to work with him. Our favourite parts of our photos are the ones that were taken of just us- the candid moments, and first look moments. Those photos that we forgot that he was even there, just living in the moment and those romantic shots! We also love all the photos he took of our reception and ceremony space. The table settings, flower arrangements, and special touches. We will never forget those!” – S

Biggest challenge: “The biggest challenge was trying to keep everyone happy. Once we put everyone else’s wishes and opinions aside and focused on what WE wanted, it was much easier. After all, your wedding day shouldn’t be about anyone else but you.” – S

Fav wedding memory: “The first time we saw each other that day- hands down. The first look was so special. It completely calmed both of us down to have those little moments between us right before we became husband and wife. I will never forget that moment.” – S

Advice from one couple to another: “If you can make it happen- hire a videographer! Having a video of the day is amazing and we watch it often. It brings you back to that day and you see it through your guests’ eyes. For us, it was well worth it! Focus on what you guys want for your day, and not what anyone else wants. It’s easier said than done for sure, but remember that your wedding day is about YOU. Try not to stress about the little things and focus on the reason why you’re getting married. Take a moment out of your night and take a step back with your significant other. Look around the room and take it all in. All those people there are supporting you, celebrating you. It’s really special. It will be one of the best days of your lives, so try and take it all in throughout the day!” – S
