Plan Your Fabulous Local Wedding

Spirits Intrigued Photography was able to capture all the love for Necia and Clayton on their big day. With an amazing colour palette and dreamy florals they brought the Walper Hotel ballroom to life…

Bride & Groom: Necia Martins and Clayton McCourt

Wedding Date: September 29, 2018

Ceremony & Reception Location(s): St Louis Parish (Waterloo, ON), The Walper Hotel (
“We are both Catholic, but at the time of our engagement, we were not members of any church. Getting married in a church was important to me, and Clay was comfortable with the idea and agreed. The one important piece was that we found a priest and parish that made us feel comfortable and welcome. We met our priest and began attending St Louis Parish, as we felt it was a fit for us.” – N

Colour Palette: Gold, blush and navy

Theme: “We were aiming for a classy elegant feel. When we walked into the Walper, that is what we were drawn to about the space and how we knew we wanted to have our reception there. As we made our decisions, we kept that thought in mind.” – N&C

Flowers: “We had a mix of roses and hydrangeas. The colours were white, off white, and pale pink.” -N

Décor: “We hired The Creative Bride. She provided us with some flare with the backlighting and draping behind our head table, as well as some beautiful rose gold table cloths.” – N&C

Fav décor element: “We tried to accent the natural beauty of the venue. We loved the character of the space and wanted that to speak for itself. We played about with beautiful floral centerpieces, and tons of tealights.” – N

DIY: “We only did our escort cards, and seating chart. The rest we let the experts help us!” – N

Invitations/stationery:Pirate Smile ( for invitations – absolutely beautiful, sparkly yet classy – everything I love” – N&C

Cake: Q’s cakes ( “We had a beautiful and simple white cake with fresh flowers that matched our bouquets and center pieces. We had a laser cut wooden cake topper that had our names made at a boutique in Stratford, Knot Too Shabby ( Absolutely beautiful and delicious cake!” – N

Wedding favours: “We ordered the delicious Rhea Thompson Mint Smoothies, which is a nod to one of our first stories when we first lived together and had an argument over the chocolates (playful of course!). They were wrapped in gold with a sticker on top stating “Mint to be.” – N&C

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: Collins Formalwear ( “They looked very sharp in navy.” – N

Bridesmaids attire and accessories: “Bridesmaids had gorgeous blush Adrianna Papell dresses with sequins. Each dress was selected by the bridesmaid to fit their preference of style – I wanted to make sure each one of my ladies felt comfortable and confident on the day. Ladies selected their own shoes, as I wanted them to be comfortable for the day.” – N

Bride’s dress and accessories: “My dress and veil were purchased at Crème Couture ( in Guelph – loved the ladies there! Loved, loved, loved my dress and veil. I felt like a model the whole day” – N

Hair & make-up: “I had quite the stress with hair and make up with my original booking cancelling, and then finding someone for hair that didn’t work out. I ended up with a dream team – Gabriela Soares for hair and Hilary Grimm for make up. They are both so professional and exceptional at their art. I felt glamourous and my ladies were stunning…. Absolutely perfect.” – N

Catering: “The food was exceptional at the Walper. The chef provided us with amazing breakfast and light lunch as the ladies were getting ready in the morning. The apps and dinner were absolutely amazing… and the serving was talked about all night! Our late night I believe was incredible, but I wouldn’t know since I barely got to try all the delicious food!” – N

Photographer: Spirits Intrigued Photography ( “We went to a few wedding shows, and checked out a lot of websites. We paired it down to three photographers, and when we met Alex we loved his warm personality, openness, and his down to earth approach. He made us feel comfortable right away … and this was so important to us. We knew we wanted someone that would be go with the flow, yet be organized. Someone that was playful, as we like to joke and be silly. Importantly, we loved his work. Checking out his site, he showcases so much variety, and yet I feel I know the couple through his work. Our first meeting we could sense this, and it was only affirmed when we did our engagement shoot and saw his amazing shoot. Working with Alex was so easy on our wedding day. We received so many compliments from our wedding party, family and friends – he was an absolute pleasure to work with and to have part of our big day. I loved Alex’s creativity when it came to location, poses, and truly capturing the moment. Alex did a great job of making us look our best. He was creative with his camera angles, and where we took our shots (it looked like we travelled to over ten locations, but it was really two different buildings, but immense creativity to find the best places to take pictures).” – N&C

Fav wedding memory: “I loved the whole day – it was so perfect! I remembered to take it all in and really try to take some mental snapshots. I thought I would be a crier, but instead, I remember smiling from ear to ear the whole day.” – N

Advice from one couple to another: “Try to keep your eye on the prize. It was tough at times getting opinions and suggestions from everyone. The unsolicited advice can become overwhelming. Trust your vision, your interests and what’s important to you. It’s your day, and in the end, if you didn’t add a little flair, or missed some visual element, no one knows but you. You will just care about spending that day with your partner and soaking in the love.” – N
